2022 BMW X5 Infotaiment Interface - Dashboard

The competition in the mid-size luxury SUV segment is tough, but it looks like the 2022 BMW X5 has something to stay a winner in the competition. This German automaker SUV has many engine choices, the best cabin quality, and an intuitive infotainment interface.

Since its first inception in 1999, BMW X5 has always been regarded as BMW’s best SUV model in terms of both value and features. Some consider X7—BMW’s most luxurious SUV—bigger and better; however, the size difference is very slight. In fact, X5 has a wider body to compensate for its slightly shorter stature.

Every upgrade of this vehicle brings new additions that make each model unique and better. The 2022 BMW X5 is not an exception. You will see some special additions to this model, though there are also some subtractions.

This New BMW X5 review gives you brief yet comprehensive information about the SUV if you are curious about what features this SUV offers.

2022 BMW X5 Redesign Exterior & Interior

From the outside, the 2022 BMW X5 SUV undeniably looks sporty and athletic. Its distinctive BMW look is indistinguishable, especially with the front kidney grille getting bigger than its predecessors. The oversized grille also gives a visual clue that it is a truly mighty SUV that has to breathe a lot to cool down its powerful engine.

Another striking exterior component that accentuates the SUV’s intimidating look is its adaptive full-LED headlights together with the angular-shaped daytime running lights.

Glimpsing a little bit lower, you will see the fog lights with a barely understated design. With its rugged design, the aluminum bumper stands out on the car’s façade without being visually asynchronous with the rest of the body, which looks sleek with its satin aluminum sheen.

The X5 SUV uses 19-inch wheels with a design that looks quite elegant. The only problem with these wheels is that they look overly small for the generously proportioned SUV. Larger wheels are certainly preferred because they better match the oversized elements of the SUV’s front.

Almost every element of this SUV’s body has chrome finishers as their accents. This is true on all sides of the car; however, you will see something different from the rear face.

Aside from the smoked taillights that balance out the front headlights, you will also see a large silver bumper guard at the bottom, which is perhaps the only silver element of the body.

The rear tailgate uses a clamshell design that is electrically controlled. There are two openable parts of the tailgate. The upper part opens upward and becomes the primary gate for inserting cargo, whereas the lower gate can be optionally opened with the press of a button whenever needed. When both gates are opened, a press of a button will close both gates automatically.

The standard model comes with only two rows of seating with adjustable front seats. The second row cannot be adjusted but can be folded if more spacious cargo space is needed. If you think that leather should be a standard feature, you will be disappointed because the seats feel cheap with their synthetic material. For the cargo, you can read more about the SUV’s cargo at the Towing Capacity section below.

Features

The cockpit looks and feels great with an elegant cabin, intuitive controls, a 12.3-inch digital cluster with an easy-to-understand interface, a 12.3-inch infotainment system with touchscreen technology, and a modern wheel with a thick and cozy grip. The infotainment system also controls various car functions, including parking assistance, collision mitigation, and steering wheel heating.

Controls are easily accessible, and most of them are attached to the wheel, allowing convenient access to all the car’s functions without causing too much distraction from the road. Passengers can also enjoy easy access to most controls regardless of whether they sit on the front seat or in the second-row cabin.

USB ports are virtually everywhere, at the front seat area and the passenger’s cabin, so phone charging should not be a problem if you board on this SUV. Some extra features you can enjoy from inside the car include things from a large panoramic sunroof and climate control to cup holders.

As mentioned above, besides the additions, certain features are also subtracted from the standard version of the 2022 BMW X5, effectively transforming the previously standard features into optional components that you must buy separately. Some notable subtractions include the absence of ventilated seating, non-reclining rear seats, and the absence of remote start.

2022 BMW X5 Engine Specs & Performance

The BMW X5 sports two types of engine, the 3.0-L BMW TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine for the sDrive40i (rear-wheel drive), xDrive40i (xDrive, intelligent AWD), and xDrive45e (hybrid) trim levels and 4.4-L BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8 engine for the X5 M50i and X5 M trim levels.

The base engine generates 335 horsepower, whereas the V8 engine is a better choice if you want to rev up the power up to 523 horsepower.

The X5 M trim is considered the most powerful, with the V8 engine’s variant generates the outstanding 600 horsepower.

Fuel Economy

Pretty obvious, the most fuel-efficient variant of the BMW X5 is the hybrid xDrive45e variant, which is rated at 50 MPGe.

The standard sDrive40i and xDrive40i variants rank second in inefficiency, with fuel economy rated 26 and 25 MPG, respectively.

The V8 variants become the least efficient models, with the M50i and M variants rated at 22 and 18 MPG.

2022 BMW X5 Towing Capacity

You will undoubtedly love the ample space that the 2021 BMW X5 can offer to store your belongings when it comes to cargo space.

When you open the tailgate, you will instantly see the rear’s emptiness, ready to receive whatever object you want to put there.

Open the floor, and you will reveal a hidden room where you can store extra items.

There are 72.3 cubic feet of cargo space available for the exact measurement if you fold the second-row seats and 33.9 cubic feet if the seats are unfolded.

2022 BMW X5 Price

As mentioned above, there are five trim levels available, with the MSRP of the base sDrive40i and xDrive40i models set at $59,400 and $61,700.

The hybrid xDrive45e model has its MSRP set at $65,400, making it perhaps the most valuable choice due to its average price and excellent fuel economy.

You can get the M50i variant of the 2022 BMW X5 SUV for the real monsters for $82,800 and the M variant for $105,100.
